The HydraFacial is a popular procedure which can be performed in your dermatologist’s office to improve the overall appearance of your skin. The procedure’s popularity is in part thanks to its versatility in treating all skin types and a wide range of skin concerns, from excess oil to signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles. In addition, many patients choose HydraFacials because they require no downtime and results can be seen soon after the treatment is complete. In Oregon and Washington, patients can turn to one of many Silver Falls Dermatology offices for HydraFacial treatment.

What is a HydraFacial?

A HydraFacial is a noninvasive cosmetic procedure designed to exfoliate, stimulate collagen production and support healthier skin through the infusion of serums. They are often chosen as an alternative to microdermabrasion or other exfoliating treatment options. The procedure combines effective cleansing, exfoliation and extraction with hydration and antioxidant protection to remove dead skin cells and debris while promoting healthy skin cells and thoroughly moisturizing the skin. HydraFacials are a versatile procedure that can be beneficial for a wide range of skin types. A HydraFacial can be chosen to prevent or address common signs of aging, thoroughly cleanse the skin and pores to prevent breakouts or create a more even and luminous appearance.

How Does the HydraFacial Work?

HydraFacials use a combination of microdermabrasion-like technology and the application of specialized serums, which can be adjusted according to your skin type and needs. The HydraFacial technology is patented and has been scientifically studied to prove its effectiveness. The procedure utilizes a process known as hydradermabrasion to exfoliate and gently resurface the skin, followed by serums referred to as “boosters.” These serums can be selected or adjusted to suit your specific goals for the procedure. Through this process, HydraFacial stimulates new collagen production and removes impurities from the skin for a healthier, more youthful and more vibrant appearance.

Who is a Good Candidate for a HydraFacial?

HydraFacial is a gentle and versatile treatment which is suitable for all skin types or tones, including sensitive skin. The procedure can also be used to address a wide range of common skin concerns. Patients may choose HydraFacial to address several common issues, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Elasticity
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Dullness or dryness
  • Texture issues
  • Brown spots or age spots
  • Enlarged pores
  • Excessive oil
  • Acne or acne scars
  • Rosacea
  • Hyperpigmentation

What to Expect During a HydraFacial

HydraFacials are completed in three steps.

First, the HydraFacial tip is used to thoroughly cleanse and exfoliate the skin. The treatment creates a fluid vortex to thoroughly cleanse pores and remove dead skin cells or other debris from the skin’s surface. Unlike other treatment options, HydraFacial removes debris by gently suctioning the pores while simultaneously introducing liquid actives. This process is known as hydradermabrasion.

The second step extracts any excess oil, dead skin cells, debris or breakouts from the pores. At the same time, the treatment applies topical moisturizers to the skin to maintain hydration and reduce irritation.

Finally, your treatment will finish with specialized serums referred to as boosters. These boosters can vary depending on your skin type, goals for the procedure and specific concerns. Prior to your procedure, your provider will recommend the serums that are best suited to your needs.

The entire HydraFacial process can be completed in as little as 30 minutes.

After a HydraFacial

HydraFacials do not require downtime. This means that you can immediately return to your routine after the treatment is complete. Most patients will see results as soon as the treatment is complete, but others may notice slight redness which should resolve quickly. Due to potential sensitivity following the procedure, your provider may advise you to avoid exfoliation for several days after your HydraFacial.

Your provider may recommend repeated HydraFacial treatments in order to meet your cosmetic goals. Patients may receive a HydraFacial as often as once per week. After you attain your goal results, it is common to schedule a routine HydraFacial about once per month to maintain these results. During a consultation, your provider can make a recommendation that will suit your unique goals, lifestyle considerations, skin type and other factors.
